All gas sensors must be bump tested following installation, not only to prove that the sensor or system have been installed correctly, but to prove the functionality of the sensor. They must also be calibrated at least annually.
All sensors deteriorate over time; the elements in Catalytic sensor wear, the Diodes in the Infra-red and Fluorescent elements glaze over, and the Electro-chemical compound depletes. These factors affect the output signal from the sensors, so the sensor range must be recalibrated to compensate
